Medical Travel for Military Personnel
You are covered by our Delta Medical Emergency policy if you have a war-injured immediate family member or domestic partner. To book a discounted military medical emergency flight, you must provide your name and relationship to your injured family member or domestic partner, as well as the name and phone number of the military hospital where they are receiving care.

Military Pet Transportation
Delta is here to help all U.S. Military family members, including pets, who travel. As a result, we only accept animals as checked baggage for active United States Military or active United States State Department Foreign Service Officers (FSO) and their spouses with active transfer orders.
Details on Military Pet Travel
When travelling on active transfer orders, military members and US State Department Foreign Service Officers can check their pets as baggage for a fee. Your pets must be booked as checked baggage by you or your spouse at least 48 hours before your arrival. Pets must abide by federal regulations, which include proper documentation based on current policies and procedures. The CAD amount will be charged upon exiting Canada, and the EUR amount will be charged upon exiting Europe. Fees determined by the carriage contract in effect at the time of ticket issuance will apply.
Animals Accepted
The following animals are permitted as checked baggage, with a maximum of two crates per flight. Giant-sized crates can only be shipped as cargo; additional restrictions apply depending on the aircraft and service class.

- Canines (except pug or snub-nosed dogs, opens in a new window)
- Birds in the home (domestic U.S. only)
- Pigs in a blanket (domestic U.S. only)

Crates Accepted
To transport your pet as checked baggage, you must use an approved shipping crate and ship in accordance with the guidelines of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The crate should have enough space for your pet to stand and sit upright — without touching the top of the container — as well as turn around and lie down in a natural position.
Most Delta Cargo locations, as well as many pet supply stores, sell crates to booked Delta passengers and shippers. If you want to buy a crate from Delta, check with the local cargo facility for availability of the crate size you require well in advance of your departure date.
